The NMFA is a one-of-a-kind musical event in the Caribbean, which brings together artists from the most prestigious musical institutions around the world to create an artistic platform that transcends in the musical education of its students. The Festival is firmly convinced that performing on stage is one of the best ways to grow as an artist, therefore it gives the young musicians the possibility to perform with professionals who can share their experience.

In 2015, the Nuevo Mundo Festival & Academy had its first and successful Aruba edition, where guest artists and students from more than 15 countries had an unforgettable musical experience. As a result, we are adding new classes such as Double Bass, Oboe, Bassoon, Horn, Tuba and Trombone.

In addition, we are delighted to announce the creation of the Nuevo Mundo Chamber Orchestra, where faculty (guest artists) and students from the summer academy will come together for a once-a- year orchestra meeting. Musicians from the Luzern Festival Orchestra, Frankfurt Radio Symphony, Houston Symphony, The Gulbenkian Orchestra and Royal Opera of Wallonie, among others, will join under the baton of Maestros Jan Wagner (Shenandoah University) and Carlos Botero (Houston Symphony).

The Nuevo Mundo 2016 Academy will assemble highly recognized professors from: the Mahler Chamber OrchestraConservatoire Supérieur et Académie de Musique Tibor Varga, Michigan State UniversityLongy School of Music, Vermeer Quartet, the Royal Conservatoire of Antwerp, Conservatorio de Música de Puerto RicoShenandoah UniversityWest Chester University and New Mexico State University.

An unusual feature of the Nuevo Mundo Festival and Academy is that not only talented young students participate but professional musicians interested in preparing auditions, recitals or concerts are welcome to benefit themselves of the experience of our faculty.

The Nuevo Mundo Festival & Academy offers a world-class event which puts Aruba among the most prestigious musical centers, motivating the tourist to visit the island, not only for its beautiful scenery and wonderful facilities but its high level of cultural life. Our project involves the possibility of working with young Aruban musicians to introduce them to music as a way of living while presenting free admission concerts at recreational and cultural venues. We believe that one of the most touristic Caribbean islands is the perfect location to develop an internationally-recognized festival while providing a social and cultural event to the Aruban citizens.

  • Message from our Artistic Director…

“Music is the magical meeting of humankind’s need for intellectual growth and essential spiritual evolution. It is the most honest attempt toward combining these two aspects of the human condition. Nuevo Mundo Festival & Academy takes on the role of being a transformative encounter in our students’ lives, as well as a celebration to our audience. With these words, I welcome you to the Nuevo Mundo Festival & Academy, ARUBA 2016.”
